Rental Properties and Broadband Availability |

We are hoping to move to one of the Greek islands in the next 12 to 18 months and Kefalonia is high on our list of possibilities but, before buying a property we are thinking about renting somewhere for 6 months to a year to be sure we have made the right choice and to find the perfect house/location.
How easy is it to rent and what would be an average amount to pay ? We would ideally require a 3 bed-roomed house with a spare room that we could use as an office as we both work from home.
This brings me to my second question… We both work from home in computing but, because of this, we would need half a dozen phone lines including access to Broadband. How easily available is Broadband in Kefalonia and what are the charges involved ?
p.s. Love what I have seen of your website so far. Really good and informative.

There are usually plenty of properties for rent on Kefalonia that would suit your requirements.
Naturally, being a holiday island, there is a tendency for short rentals in Summer to be high in price. However, if you are seeking a six-month or annual agreement then the week-on-week rentals are dramatically lower.
A 3 to 4 bed roomed villa would cost around €300 to €500 per month. Compare this to the €1,000+ high-season weekly rents and you’ll appreciate the benefits of longer-term renting !
Turning to Broadband facilities: these are now becoming available. For examples of present services we suggest you check out http://www.otenet.gr/hd/english/index_en.htm . This is the English language info site for OTENET, one of several ISP's - all have their strengths and weaknesses.
Practical tip: Greece, as with most Mediterranean countries, is prone to electrical storms. Power and phone lines are above ground and are susceptible to lightning strikes. The ONLY way to avoid this problem is to unplug ALL leads to your computer whenever a storm threatens. Don’t rely on surge-protectors !
